How to search efficiently and advanced

General Searching

  • This search engine is case insensitive, meaning that it doesn't matter if you use upper- or lower-case letters in your search words. Searching for EmInEm will return the same results as searching for Eminem.

  • To efficiently achieve related search results you may combine the above fields. You should do so if a search returns unacceptable many results. It may also be a good idea to just add more words to either of the search boxes if you are returned very many results. This gives the search engine more information to base the search on, and it usually narrows the result greatly.

  • If you type more than one word in the Artist Name field the search engine will return all lyrics containing each of the words you typed in the artist name (e.g Jackson Michael will return the same results as Michael Jackson).

  • Similarly to the above note if you type more than one word in the Song Name field the search engine will return all lyrics containing each of the words you typed in the song name (e.g Love You will return the same results as You Love.

  • This search engine does not support the use of Boolean operators like AND and OR. This is because the AND operator is automatically put in between each word you write in you query. If you would like to search for two separate artists or songs you will have to do this by simply searching two times, one search for each artist or song.

  • Using common search operators like wrapping your search in " signs will (at the time of writing) not make a difference to your search. We simply discard all " signs. This may result in the search engine returning some "noise" results, which is really unnecessary compared to a result if we handled such signs. However the related lyrics will still be among the return. We are currently working on handling " sings in searches more professionally. Read about how this site works for more info on this.

  • Not that searchlyrics.org does no longer support sub-string searches. We used to do this, but as it more often than not returns highly irrelevant results and is a processor unfriendly way of searching we do no longer offer this feature. Se how this site works for more info on this.

  • When searching within the lyric text, try not to use very common words like "I", "the", "we" etc. You don't have to write a sentence from the song text, simply write words that you remember to be in it. The positions of the words in you query are completely irrelevant compared to the position of the words in the lyrics.
